Sofa canape in a modern interior: elegance and convenience (24 photos)

The sofa canape is characterized by its small size, raised headboard and the obligatory presence of armrests and backrest. His homeland is France, where he first saw the light in the eighteenth century. Since that time, this piece of furniture has undergone many changes and now has few similar features with the historical model.

Modern forms

Modern sofa canapes are made in two styles: luxury and everyday. The first, embodying the sophistication of past eras, has a high aesthetics and is designed to decorate the interior. But for a good rest, such furniture cannot be used.

Sofas from the second group are multifunctional due to the presence of an additional surface hidden inside the structure. If necessary, it can be expanded, increasing the bed area from 100 to 140 cm. Such mini-sofas, suitable for use in average apartments, also look elegant and stylish.

Modern models are united by the presence of an armrest, a backrest of medium hardness and a soft seat. In some embodiments, there are two armrests of different heights, made of wood. In others, their role is played by soft rollers, which are fastened to the seat with velcro or are rejected on the loops to increase the total length of the sofa. The backrests vary in type of construction and can be made of wood or chipboard, as well as be equipped with cushions.

When creating the frameworks of sofas, canapé used wood, metal or a combination of these materials. Springless foam polyurethane and latex systems, which are characterized by high wear resistance and elasticity, as well as spring systems with dependent or independent springs, are used to fill the seats.

Transformation mechanisms

Despite the small size when folded, the sofa canapes can fully replace the bed. To obtain a bed, various types of mechanisms are used, among which the most popular are:

  • "French cot". Differs in convenience at installation, a practicality and compactness. Folds the "accordion" in three stages, forming a surface perpendicular to the back.
  • "Accordion". The layout is carried out by raising the seat with a characteristic click and pulling it forward until a wide, level resting area is formed.
  • Roll out. The mechanism is the most durable and reliable during operation, therefore it is optimally suited for daily use. Folds out the seat extension forward, after which the back is lowered onto the empty space.

All types of transformation mechanisms are folding forward. Therefore, when installing furniture, you need to take care of the availability of sufficient free space.

Use in the children's room

When choosing a sofa in the nursery, you need to consider a few points that will ensure the safety and comfort of the child.

The children's sofa canape is made of materials that do not cause allergic reactions. Upholstery fabric should be durable, hygienic and soft, seat filler - durable and retaining shape. It is also undesirable that the sofa is equipped with hard surfaces or protruding parts, hitting which can be injured.

The transformation mechanism should have a soft stroke, so that the child himself was engaged in his unfolding. To prevent accidents, it is better to choose a clamshell, the design of which does not provide for the presence of falling parts.

Due to its compact size and laconic design, the sofa canapes are successfully used in rooms even with a small layout. They can decorate any interior, acting as a comfortable resting place during the day and a comfortable bed at night.
